Holistic health care for your entire family
Holistic health care for your entire family
Dr. Gary Lewis is board certified in Family Medicine and has been in practice for more than two decades. He is well-known in the greater Milwaukee community as one of the pioneers of complementary medicine in the area. A native of South Africa, he trained as a physician there and in the United States. While in medical school he also trained in naturopathy, applied kinesiology, orthopedic medicine and techniques of osteopathic medicine. He studied medical acupuncture at the renowned Helms Medical Institute at UCLA and Stanford University where he graduated in 2002. He has incorporated medical acupuncture into his practice since 2003 for a wide variety of medical conditions.
Dr. Lewis is an avid woodworker as well as a lover of nature and wildlife. One of his hobbies is photographing the animals in his native South Africa. You'll see both his photos and his wooden furniture throughout the Thiensville Family Health Care office.
As a family medicine practitioner, Dr. Lewis is normally the first point of contact for patients in search of general or primary medical treatment and can refer patients to a specialist when needed. As a family doctor, Dr. Lewis delivers thorough medical care for individuals and households. Family doctors may detect, address and manage a number of conditions, illnesses and diseases.
Dr. Lewis chooses to practice as an independent physician because he values the personal relationship between doctor and patient. In this day and age of large physician groups, impersonal clinics and specialized medicine, the personalized care delivered by Dr. Lewis to your entire family is rare to find.
As a holistic physician, Dr. Lewis looks at the patient as a whole person—mind, body and spirit. In addition to a conventional medical course of treatment, Dr. Lewis may recommend additional complementary therapies, many of which are provided by practitioners within Thiensville Health Alliance.
The holistic approach is also sometimes called functional medicine. Functional Medicine is a systems biology–based approach that focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of disease. Each symptom or differential diagnosis may be one of many contributing to an individual’s illness. Functional medicine focuses on optimal functioning of the body and its organs, usually involving systems of holistic or alternative medicine. It treats the whole system, not just the symptoms.
Dr. Lewis is affiliated with numerous hospitals, including Columbia St Mary’s Hospital Ozaukee and more. He is accepting new patients at his medical office and center location in Thiensville WI, and is available for appointments, preventative care, medical care as well as ongoing patient care. He is licensed to practice by the state board in Wisconsin.
